Celebrate Autumn!
Decorating The Yard For Fall One of the pleasures of living in an area where we have four seasons is celebrating autumn. Our landscapes can be vibrant with fall mums, light-catching grasses and other colorful plants. The varieties of pumpkins, gourds and colorful corn for decorating are more numerous every year, and there are scarecrows, birds and other ornaments to add a touch of fun to your arrangements. Here are some ideas for decorating the garden for fall: Have a bare spot in your gardens where perennials or annuals have gone by? Plant ornamental cabbages and kales or create a display of multi-colored pumpkins. Pile the bounty of the season onto a garden bench or chair: squash, gourds, and colorful corn. Create such displays in locations where you will see them frequently, such as by a front door or out a kitchen window. Repurpose a birdbath for fall! Make a soft bed of cornhusks or hay in the bowl of a birdbath and fill it with gourds and mini-pumpkins. Tie corn stalks to the mailbox post and group a selection of mums and pumpkins at the base. As we get closer to Halloween, add ghosts, skeletons or other figures appropriate to the holiday.
