This De-icer is designed to float in the water and is thermostatically controlled with an automatic shut-off. The styrofoam float is completely enclosed within a rugged plastic housing. The cord exits from the top of the unit - cord length is 15'
If your pond is made of rubber or plastic you should purchase the optional guard.
This guard (shown top-right not to scale) easily snaps onto several plastic API models of de-icers. It is constructed of galvanized wire and assembled without the use of welding, forming a much more sturdy and durable guard.
This Sinking De-icer will sink to the bottom of the pond, and is thermostatically controlled with an automatic shut-off. Since it operates at the bottom of the tank, it is less likely to be disturbed by fish.
Each unit comes with a galvanized wire Guard/Stand With the guard in place, the Sinking De-icer may be used in plastic ponds.
Position De-icer in center of bird bath. Drape power cord over the side. Run a fully grounded extension cord to the unit. Always keep unit clean. Remove any lime buildup and store inside after the winter months.
